  1. Improvement (ALSCAL)
  2. ALSCAL is an iterative program which seeks to obtain the smallest value of the S-STRESS index of fit, where 0.0 indicates perfect fit. The "improvement" is the amount of decrease in this index from one iteration to the next.
  3. ALSCAL's algorithm guarantees that this index will never get worse (bigger) except for round-off error.
